In Sicily, in the town of Trapani and exactly in the city of Marsala there is Mozia Island, and also a laguna called the “Stagnone”, next to the Island of Mozia, separated from the open sea to the west by a few islands, Isola Lunga, San Pantaleo, Mothia or Mozia Island in Phoenician times, and two other smaller island, Santa Maria and Scuola. Very close to Marsala is the most archeological island of the Stagnone. Mozia Isalnd can be reached by small boats from the mainland.

In times past Mozia vas tied to the coast by an underwater street that could be crossed by mules and wagons. It can still be seen at low tide. On the island, that measures 40 hectars , in a typical mediterranian vegetation, have been found in various expeditions , archeological remains from different ages , in part saved in a small but suggestive museum. Young man (Giovinetto in tunica.) Is the most important treasure of Mozia . It is a statue that may be Apolo made of ionic marble from the V century a. c. , it has been studied by famous art critics. and many times exhibited in different galleries such as Palazzo Grassi in Venice..A guided tour of Mozia will bring you to the ancient commercial port of Cothon, and the mosaics , remains of the ancient homes , as well as the urns that hold the ashes of the children sacrificed for the gods.
